Of course, there are some roof damages that you can do nothing about and in these cases; you will have to wait until there is some professional help available.

Repairing roof damage requires some basic knowledge about your roofing system, as well as the tools that you will use during the repair. You should begin the process of repairing a damaged roof by identifying the problem. Check if there is a broken tile or a broken shingle, or a damaged flashing. Once you are able to identify the damage, it will be much easier for you to repair it.

Repairing shingles bar

Many homes in the Australia is made from asphalt shingle bars. If you find that you have a damaged shingle on your roof, you can carry out your roof repair by replacing these shingles. You will have to remove the damaged shingle without inflicting any damage on the other bars.

Use a chisel and a hammer to break the damaged shingle as this will make it easier to remove it from the roof. Thereafter, use a hacksaw to remove the old nails. Take the new shingle and shape it so that it fits the roof. As the shingle slides into place, use two galvanized cedar shingle nails to attach the shingle into place.

Repairing the broken tiles

Repairing roof damage also includes repairing broken tiles. When you get up on the roof to change the broken tiles, you should take care not to break any other tiles. Remove the broken tiles from the roof, gently and then scrape off the excess adhesive with the help of a chisel.

Put an adhesive on the back of the new tiles and gently slide them into place.

Repairing the roof flashing

If there are some minor damages on the roof flashing, you can easily repair it. First, you will have to re-nail any loose nails on the roofing. Thereafter, use some roofing cement to cover the heads of the nails and the nail holes on the roof.

However, if the damage on the roof flashing is too serious, you will have to replace it by removing a few rows of shingles, along with the old flashing. Once you have placed the new flashing, you can fix the shingles into place.

Finally, in order to ensure that you do not have to spend too much for expensive roof repairs, you should carry your regular maintenance of your roof. Do not allow moss, fungus or mildew to grow on the roof. Cut any handing branches and weeds that grow near your roof, as the shed leaves can restrict the water flow.
